Traditional exhibition and selection of books summarizing creme de la creme of book publications.
The 58th edition of the competition for the Most Beautiful Czech Book of the Year 2022, organized by the Ministry of Culture and the National Monument of National Literature, showcased achievements in graphic, illustrative, and polygraphic design. A jury comprised of designers, illustrators, art theorists, and printers evaluated 60 nominated titles across seven genres, recognizing the best works and presenting awards in categories.
In the category of professional literature, the first prize went to the publication Consolation of Living: the Life of a Private Collector Behind the Iron Curtain by Marcela Rusinko, Jiří Pátek and Alexander Skalický (graphic design by Milan Nedvěd, Positif Publishing House). Among fiction, the jury was most impressed by Mary Shelly’s horror novel Frankenstein (book adaptation by Nikola Janíčková and Anežka Hájková, Take Take Take Publishing House). In the category of children’s literature, the award went to the fantasy story Do nepaměti by Tomáš Končinský and Daniel Špaček (book adaptation by Petr Štěpán, Albatros publishing house). Among the nominated textbooks, the first place went to the publication Housing by architect Iva Potůčková (graphic design by Matěj Hanauer and Petra Roubalová, published by the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague).
And many other books were selected and represented different aspects, themes and artwork.
