Published October 19, 2023

UMPRUM Product Design Studio presents its work at Dutch Design Week as part of the exhibition Beautiful Work.

After a successful presentation in Belgium, the exhibition Beautiful Work moves to the Netherlands. The works of the students of the Product Design Studio, which were created in cooperation with the project Beautiful Work, is presented at the international show Dutch Design Week.

The objects focus on the revival and innovation of traditional crafts by nine artists, which could be imaginatively divided into the categories of food, fashion and structure. Mentioning some of the exhibited artworks, we can start with Jan Lechner’s brass chandelier, which employs the art of metalwork. Sara Kucerova’s focus lies in wood carving and the creation of wooden sculptures of saints. She distilled their messages down to fundamental concepts. Miloslav Chytil delved into the craft of leatherworking, crafting a finely detailed leather harness. Lastly, there’s Mikulas Prochazka, who sought the perfect form and design for a kitchen knife. In the other displayed pieces, students worked with embroidery, crafting jewelry from scales, ceramics, blacksmithing, and even brush making.

Their exhibition doesn’t just highlight their artworks but also provides space to introduce the various crafts, the creative process, and acquaint visitors with the tools and technologies involved.
